Metaphysics, explorations into the subconscious, abstract expressionism and surrealism, are the many sources of Laura Meredith’s watercolours. The artist has an overflowing and powerful creative imagination, which immediately solicits the spectator. Also attracted by oriental calligraphy, Laura Meredith is inspired by its richness for her own expression : the finesse, the precision of the work, the exploration of opposites : the full and the empty, the for and against, the black and the white. The white in particular, she considers a breath of fresh air, as her own signature.
A fine observer, the artist does not hesitate to plunge into the heart of life, of society, and to analyse the relations between its diverse actors. Her works are a net of subtle connections linking the human beings, their soul, and the things. They are the fruit of multiple discoveries, thanks to her spirit and mind in constant eruption. Her sense of humour, of piquant, flirt with the surface of the paper, together with a delicate touch, a care for detail, a single stroke. Echoing oriental calligraphy, the artist disciplines herself to measure precisely the proportion of colour and water, sometimes enriched with a touch of gouache, and she takes a long time searching for the appropriate equilibrium.
It is a great pleasure to hear her relating the diversity of her approaches. In the series Energies, it is the aggressivity, the strength, the dynamic of the stroke which predominate. In the Couples, the satirical and humoristic aspects are privileged. In the Etats d’âme, or Pensées de femme, the artist herself shows through, in the complexity of her concepts.
It is a rich and unexpected universe that the artist proposes, between the yin and the yang, audacity and reflection, between poetry and philosophy. Absolutely to be seen!
